Qurbani is compulsory upon every sane Muslim adult - male and female - who is not travelling, and owns the NISAB (which is beyond his/her basic needs) during the days of Qurbani.
Nisab is the minimum threshold of wealth a person owns at which point Udhiyyah becomes COMPULSORY.
Nisab amount stipulated by Shariah:
GOLD - 87.48g
SILVER - 612.36g
Any other form of wealth that is equivalent to the above in value. This does not have to be possessed an entire year.
Qurbani can be performed at any time during this period, but is most preferred on the FIRST DAY.
Must be atleast 1 year old (if a sheep physically appears to be 1 year old, and is more than 6 months old, then it is permissible to slaughter. This allowance is for sheep only, not goat).
1 of these animals will be discharge the obligation of
1 INDIVIDUAL.
Must be atleast 2 years old.
Must be atleast 5 years old.
1 of these animals will be discharge the obligation of
7 INDIVIDUALS.
If they meet the criteria of Qurbani mentioned above, they will be obliged and responsible for the own Qurbani. However, if you carry it out on their behalf with their knowledge and approval, the obligation will be discharged.
Qurbani can be carried out on behalf of a deceased Muslim. This would be voluntary and must be done from your own money, and not the deceased's.
